Lockdown is tough for everyone, but especially challenging with young witches and wizards. No parent is immune to cries of “I’m bored!” or “There’s nothing to do!”.
But never fear, we have your back! We’ve compiled an extensive list of Harry Potter inspired activities to keep your young ones entertained. Whether you’re locked in with a rambunctious Gryffindor or a creative Ravenclaw, these activities are sure to bring some much-needed magic to your time stuck at home.
SLIME POTIONS by Little Bins for Little Hands
At Quizzic Alley, it’s known as Dragon’s Drool and it’s one of our favourite things to make! While our recipe incorporates Troll Bogeys, the folks at Little Bins for Little Hands offer multiple non-magical alternatives that are safe for use at home. Make Polyjuice Potion, Amortentia, or Skele-Gro slimes!
EASY HOUSE THEMED BOOKMARKS by Red Ted Art
Whether you’ve just started reading The Philosopher’s Stone with your young one or they’re reading The Deathly Hallows by themselves, these house themed bookmarks are a stylish way to mark the page. They’re super easy to make using coloured paper and glue and are an excellent way to show off house pride.
GLOWING INVISIBLE INK SECRET MESSAGES By Teach Beside Me
Make a Marauder’s Map or send top-secret official Order of the Phoenix messages. This simple trick using laundry detergent and a UV light or blacklight is a cheap but incredibly effective way to hide messages from prying eyes.
FEATHER QUILL PEN AND INK by BabbleDabbleDo
Whether it’s to complete their potions homework or to write a howler, every witch and wizard needs a feather quill. This craft is so mind bogglingly easy it’s the perfect activity for folks of all ages and ability levels. Make a traditional quill with a brown or white feather, go full Lockhart with a peacock feather, or even match the feather to house colours! There are even instructions for making coloured ink using water and food colouring.
DIY WANDS by Brisbane Kids
No witch or wizard is ever found without their wand at hand. This simple but effective craft uses sticks from your backyard, but a wooden dowel, a chopstick, or an old pencil will work as well. A little glue, some string, and a nice coat of paint.. And voila! A magic wand! Just remember – no casting spells in front of non-magical folk!
DIY MONSTER BOOK OF MONSTERS by Mama Smiles
This craft is perfect for decking out schoolbooks, a journal, or even a secret diary (as long as it’s not a horcrux). With just a little bit of fake fur, some wool or something similar from the craft cupboard (hopefully under the stairs), some glue and felt pieces, you and your little witches and wizards could have your very own bad-tempered, prone-to-bite book.

We just got a delivery of books that includes some very magical NEW activity books for kids! The Honeydukes Scratch and Sniff is a clear favourite but the sticker books, the water collour reveal book and Destroy the Horcrux book look fabulous as well.
